Foil Drive originated as a personal endeavor of CEO and chief designer Paul. With a shoulder injury, he had a strong desire to ride more waves during his limited free time, especially those further out where most waves go unridden. The local community quickly caught wind of it and expressed their interest in owning one, forming a queue for Foil Drive. Paul brings a diverse range of expertise to the table, having previously established the first commercial Drone operation in Australia and possessing over 20 years of experience in designing RC aircraft, electric skateboards, scooters, and mountain bikes. His passion gradually expanded to include jetboards and electric surfboards, eventually leading to the development of foiling. However, the initial electric foils he created, although powerful, proved to be too heavy for surfing. This prompted the idea of a super-lightweight, retro-fit motor kit that would offer just enough assistance to get on the foil while minimizing weight and maintaining optimal hydrodynamics and performance with any existing equipment. Our other co-founder, Ben, has been acquainted with Paul for more than a decade. They initially met through RC aircraft and later collaborated in the drone industry. Both shared a common passion for outdoor sports and quickly found themselves yearning to spend more time foiling as the sport progressed. The concept of hybrid "Foildriving" rapidly gained popularity, and soon riders from all corners of the globe were inquiring about how they could join in on the excitement!
